VOLUNTEER

Join Our Team

Every YMCA across the nation is volunteer founded, volunteer led and volunteer based. Collectively, YMCAs are the largest nonprofit organization in the nation and benefit from the leadership of more than 600,000 volunteers. The YMCA of Northern Colorado welcomes volunteers in all areas of our association. Duties range in responsibility from reading to our preschool students to coaching youth sports to greeting members at our front desk. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or intern, we can work together to find a placement that fits your availability, personality and interests.

It is our corporate policy that all volunteers must pass a criminal background screening prior to placement.

Volunteering at the YMCA of Northern Colorado can accomplish the following:

  • Make a difference in your community
  • Support a cause you believe in
  • Put your skills and experience to work
  • Learn new skills
  • Make new friends and develop professional contacts
  • Combat social isolation and reduce stress
  • Build confidence

Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:

2023 YMCA Ambassador Program

Do you love the Y? Do you love fitness classes and know the schedule like the back of your hand? If so, you might be a great fit for our new ambassador program.

The YMCA Ambassador Program, launched in 2023, is a volunteer program that aims to build community within our Ys. Ambassadors — basically the Y “spirit committee” — welcome new members to classes, help them get set up for class and answer questions. Ambassadors work directly with health and fitness directors at each Y.

You might make a great ambassador if you are:

  • Kind and inclusive
  • Enthusiastic about the Y
  • Familiar with class schedules and offerings
  • Bilingual (a plus but not required)

New ambassadors will go through either a one-on-one or group orientation with a health and fitness director. During that session, they will receive an ambassador T-shirt, job descriptions and a starter kit of supplies.

Once you begin your work as a Y ambassador, we encourage you to wear your T-shirt any day. When members see your shirt, they’ll know you are on duty. Ambassadors also participate in monthly coffees with your Y’s leadership staff to get support, ask questions and get important updates.

Any members over the age of 18 may serve as an ambassador, and you can volunteer as much or as little as you like. You can even take classes on days when you are an ambassador.

Interested in becoming an ambassador? Register here and you’ll be contacted by our health and fitness director with more information on the next orientation.
